Aug 2024 : Groede

Week long beach holiday in Groede in the Netherlands for the family, and a weekend with lots of cycling between Dunkirk and Groede for me!

Saturday morning and we set off from home with the Knopps and the caravan in tow for Dover ferry terminal, I changed into cycling kit while on the ferry and I got my road bike out of the caravan and left the ferry as a cycle passenger.

While Juli drove the caravan to Groede I cycled the 140km along the coast through France, Belgium and finally the Netherlands, cycling was lovely and without any elevation to deal with was just a case of keeping going!

I arrived in Groede around 7pm and a cold beer awaited me!

We spend the Sunday all together going to the beach and playing in the sea and had lovely lunch at a beachside bar which the Knopps put clothes on and joined us for which was nice.

On Monday I did the same route as Saturday but in reverse and extended it to Calais where I had a cheap hotel booked for the night and an early morning ferry booked.

Tuesday morning I cycled to the ferry terminal and started a very long commute to the office. The ferry didn’t let me get off until all the cars had gone so left me very little time to get through Dover to the train station for my prebooked train to take me to Kings Cross and then a short cycle across town to get to the office for an 11am meeting.

I worked for the rest of the week and then on Saturday morning I took a taxi to Luton and flew out to Geneva to start the next holiday
