As part of the Tour De France holiday trip we spent 5 nights in Taninges with the plan to do a bit of cycling in Les Gets/Morzine and generally see what Morzine is like in the Summer.
Thursday 3rd
We arrived in Taninges around 1pm and dumped the caravan at the campsite with the bikes and headed up to Morzine to the lac for a swim. It was awesome to see the town in sunshine and we went for a drink at The Pleney bar where Drew and I spent many an afternoon in February.

Friday 4th
After a steady start collecting pastries from the boulangerie we drove up to Les Gets to investigate hiring some mountain bikes for later in the trip. We went for a bit of lunch and since it was raining headed back to camp to chil.
Saturday 5th
I went out for a cycle up to Morzine from the campsite. Was really hard going but very enjoyable. Felt very odd to cycle down routes that we have previously skied many times!

Sunday 6th
There was a classic car show in the village we were staying in so after breakfast we wandered up to have a look. There were some lovely old 205s there which made me very wistful.
Monday 7th
After breakfast we drove up to Les Gets to collect our hire bikes and what seemed like an excessive amount of body armour. As a pleasant surprise the Carrs were also in Morzine and so we met up and cycled together doing the green runs and then venturing onto some blues.
The cycling was great fun, and the full suspension enduro bikes Juli and the kids hired were amazing, especially the carbon one Henry lucked out with.

We found a nice restaurant for lunch and cycled some more, including a run down to Morzine along some of our usual ski runs which was very nice – all be it a bit strange feeling!
As we were having such a nice time cycling we decided to adjust our plans for the next couple of days and stayed an extra day in Taninges and kept the bikes for another day.
Tuesday 8th
Bonus day in Taninges! We intended to get out early to make the most of the cycling but still had a steady breakfast and got up to the mountains for about 11. We did a few runs – feeling much more confident in the burms – and then stopped for an icecream and drink break. We then cycled back down into Les Gets to top up our lift pass with another 12 lifts and did another couple of runs before lunch.
After lunch we cycled some more but the vibration was getting a little uncomfortable for Lottie and she and I stopped when we got to the bottom and went to a bar to play cards while the others did a couple more.
We got back to the campsite and made curry for dinner and started to pack up. It was dark when we were done but we were confident since we’d pretty much packed everything we’d be quick in the morning…
Wednesday 9th
For some reason even though we’d pretty much packed up the night before we only left the site at about 10:45 and set off on our way to Dijon
